Background & Purpose
State agencies have lacked clear legal tools to temporarily suspend employees involved in situations that may lead to termination or dismissal. The government therefore proposed new rules to handle these situations.
The Decision
The Swedish parliament voted in favor of the government's proposal, giving state agencies the authority to suspend employees immediately for limited periods.

In Practice

- Employees generally keep their salary and employment benefits during the suspension unless collective agreements state otherwise.
- Employers must inform the employee's union about the suspension, otherwise the employee may be entitled to damages.
