The current electricity laws were outdated and needed to be updated to better align with EU regulations and ensure a more stable and efficient power grid for the future.
The Decision
The parliament decided to replace the old electricity act with two new laws that clarify responsibilities for grid owners and change how electricity supply is handled for consumers.

- New terminology will be used to better match EU standards.

- The old system of 'anvisade elavtal' (default electricity contracts) will be removed.
- A new system with 'sistahandsleverantörer' (last-resort suppliers) will be introduced to ensure everyone has access to electricity.
