Background & Purpose
Sweden is part of the Eurovignette cooperation, which collects road charges for heavy trucks. Since the Swedish Tax Agency has taken over tasks previously managed by Dutch authorities, the Swedish laws needed to be updated to match the common system.
The Decision
The parliament decided to update the calculation rules for refunds of road charges and allow companies to appeal decisions, ensuring the system works consistently with other member countries.
Does this affect you?
- Foreign transport companies: They get clearer and more standardized rules for how road charge refunds are calculated when driving in Sweden.
- Transport operators: They gain the right to appeal decisions regarding road charge refunds, providing better legal protection.
In Practice
- Refunds for road charges for foreign vehicles will now follow the same calculation rules as the rest of the Eurovignette cooperation.
- It will now be possible to appeal decisions regarding refunds of road charges, which was previously prohibited.
- The Swedish Tax Agency will manage these tasks under the updated legal framework.
