Background & Purpose

During the autumn of 2025, several proposals were submitted regarding how Swedish elections should be conducted, including ideas about changing the voting age and improving accessibility. The parliament decided not to move forward with these ideas as they believe current work in these areas is already sufficient.

The Decision

Parliament voted to reject all 42 proposals, which means that the rules for how elections are held in Sweden will remain unchanged.

Does this affect you?

  • Swedish voters: The way you cast your vote and the rules surrounding elections remain exactly the same as before.
  • Voters with disabilities: Existing support systems for voting remain in place, as no new legislative changes were approved to alter them.
