Every year, the state plans how funds should support people who cannot work due to illness or disability. While opposition parties proposed alternative spending plans, parliament voted to approve the main government proposal.
The Decision
The Swedish parliament decided to spend 122 billion SEK on illness and disability support for 2026. The decision also changes rules so individuals on disability compensation can study without losing their benefits, and improves protection for families of government staff working abroad.
